New Handbook of Human Factors in Consumer Product Design
Designing
consumer products that satisfy human needs is not easy. However, the
design process that involves application of human factors can reduce
the risk of product failure, malfunction, accidents, and contribute to
the success of the product while reducing overall cost associated with
these factors.
Nowadays, with the advance of technology
and particularly with the miniaturization, the way in which people are
interacting with consumer products is rapidly changing. The demand for
new research in this constantly changing world of technology is growing
very fast.
We are pleased to invite you to consider writing a
chapter for the new Handbook of Human Factors in Consumer Product
Design, a multivolume set, to be published by CRC Press - a Taylor
& Francis Company. Your contribution may include new methods,
techniques, software application, and theoretical mainstream regarding
human factors/ergonomics in consumer product design.
If you
would like to contribute, please send the proposed title (s) of your
chapter(s) before October 31st, 2009, to Prof. Marcelo Soares (Email: msoares@mail.ucf.edu). We will then send author's guide and other necessary information.

Discussion groups on the IEA Wbsite
The designer of the website has now completed the introduction of the
option for discussion groups and a wiki component for posting
documents. To assist our international members in using this
site, the trial has been commenced with nominated discussion group
categories.

Editors from Federated Societies
With
assistance from Dave Moore (New Zealand) we are encouraging the
Newsletter editors from Federated Societies to share their Newsletters
at an international level via the IEA website. Dave has
contacted as many editors that he knows to seek their interest and
support.

You will find
attached to this email the January'2008 newsletter of the IEA
President. In the newsletter, David Caple described the many different
collaborations between the IEA, ICOH, ILO, WHO and NIOSH; these
collaborations are aimed at further improving the dissemination of
ergonomics knowledge worldwide. The newsletter also includes
information about several conferences:
IEA Newsletter No 18 December 2007
TIn the December newsletter, David announces several
good news, including the generous contribution of 3M and Knowles Group
to the IEA sustaining membership program.

The
newly redesigned website of the IEA is attracting much attention;
further enhancements are being designed that will facilitate and
encourage communication between IEA federated societies.

Nordic Ergonomics Society (NES)
The
Nordic Ergonomics Society (NES), founded in 1969, represents the
professional interest of about 1400 members from the five Nordic
countries. The member organisations are:
Aims
The
aims of the Nordic Ergonomics Society are to promote collaboration
between member organisations and individuals in the Nordic countries
who have an interest in or are working with, ergonomics and the working
environment and to facilitate the Nordic collaboration in international
activities.
NES
also increases and promotes knowledge about the interaction between
humans and the environment in which they live and work and facilitates
the use of that knowledge in the design of the environment, equipment
and processes.
Objectives
For members, the Nordic Ergonomics Society signifies
interest, skill, experience and credibility within the world of
ergonomics and among other professionals.
Affiliation to
the International
Ergonomics Association (IEA) and
the Federation of European Ergonomics
Societies (FEES) ensures strong
international links between ergonomists throughout the world.
The
Nordic Ergonomics Society provides ergonomists and those interested in
the subject with a focus for important matters affecting the
profession. Through various participative committees and interest
groups, the NES addresses current and long term issues affecting the
professional status and the development of ergonomics, including
education and practice.
Members
are encouraged to participate in the various activities of NES.
Membership offers the opportunity to participate in the coordinating
and marketing of the benefits to be gained from ergonomics.
Conferences
The Nordic Ergonomics Society Conference, a major
annual event, provides the opportunity for people to hear about,
present and discuss topical issues to do with ergonomics and related
disciplines. In addition to informative value, the NES Conference
offers a strong social element and the chance to meet old and new
colleagues. The conference language is English but some some sessions
are in Swedish, Danish or Norwegian. The conference program includes
the Annual General meeting of NES and the presentation of awards.
