Outgoing President David Caple, Secretary-General Pascal Carayon and Treasurer Min Chung got much warm applause for the excellent way they have carried out their jobs during 2006-2009! For the next three-year period, until February 2012, Council elected three officers:
• President, Andy Imada (USA)
• Secretary-General, Eric Wang (Taiwan)
• Treasurer, Klaus Zink (Germany)
Since the election the new president has assembled team of chairs to fill most of the positions for the IEA standing committees. These include:
• Development and Promotion, Ralph Bruder (Germany)
• International Development, Barbara Silverstein (USA)
• Science, Technology and Practice, Verna Blewett (Australia)
• Past President & Awards, (Ex-Officio), David Caple (Australia)
• 2012 Congress Chair, Marcelo Soares (Brazil)
IEA is a growing organization
Two new federated societies (Thailand and Singapore) were welcomed in Beijing and one new network (South East Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies). Now the number of federated societies is 47, affiliated societies 2, networks 3 and sustaining members 7. Altogether the number of individuals belonging to member societies is estimated to be 25.000 in 2009.
Next Triennial Congresses and Council meeting
The next Triennial Congress will take place in three years in Recife, Brazil in February 12-16 2012 with the title “Designing a sustainable future”. The 19th Triennial Congress in 2015 will be organized by the ergonomics societies of Australia and New Zealand and will be held in Melbourne.
The next IEA Council meeting, which is held yearly, will be hosted by FEES and will take place in Bruges, Belgium, October 2010 in conjunction with the FEES conference “Ergonomics in and for Europe”.
